was sent on April 10th to the following politicians:

Bob Mills, Federal MP
Mary Anne Jablonski, Alberta MLA
Victor Doerksen, Alberta MLA
Mayor Morris Flewwelling
Councillor Tara Veer
Councillor Cindy Jefferies
Councillor Frank Wong
Councillor Lorna Watkinson-Zimmer (sent April 23rd; my mistake)
Councillor Bev Hughes
Councillor Jeffrey Dawson
Councillor Larry Pimm
Councillor Lynne Mulder

Victor Doerksen

Victor Doerksen's reply was prompt and he invited the local Post Carbon chapter to talk with him about the issue. At the meeting a couple of weeks later, it was clear that he was both knowledgeable and concerned about the issue of peak fossil fuels. He has agreed that if the chapter is able to organize a participatory citizen's forum on the issue, he would be glad to attend as a guest speaker.

Bob Mills

Bob Mills sent what seems to be a cut and pasted form letter about climate change. We all know that climate change is related to natural gas, but that leaves me no closer to figuring out how I'm going to heat my house ten years down the road. Click here to read his reply.

Two days later, another letter arrived from Bob Mills. In this one, he said that he has forwarded the letter to Gary Lunn, the Natural Resources minister.

I've since received a reply from Gary Lunn. It was a substantial and well thought out reply, but it gave no indication that there was anything wrong with the status quo (once again, the typical reliance on "undiscovered" sources of natural gas).

I suspect that in about five years time, our federal and provincial energy ministers will find themselves being pilloried in the court of public opinion. Our natural gas heating bills will have doubled or tripled once again, and we will be looking for someone to blame.

Morris Flewwelling

I received a reply from the mayor on June 26. It mentioned a number of city initiatives designed to save energy. Some were quite significant (eg, incorporating LEED standards into the new Civic Yards buildings). However, in general, it gave little indication that the mayor was cognizant of the huge social and economic disruptions that peak oil and natural gas has in store for us. At this point, no other replies have been received.
