Several months ago, I e-mailed the province, asking about our supplies of natural gas. The result is below. My questions are in green and the province's replies are in red.

I wrote back a third time, asking if the writer was serious about the notion of actually turning off the taps. Of course, at that point, there were no more replies.

As you can see, it seems as though the province has no qualms about encouraging other jurisdictions to get hooked on natural gas and then, when TSHTF, turn off the taps and let other folks freeze in the dark. The province also seems not to have noticed what Dick Cheney and company tend to do when confronted with the spectre of a reduction in fossil fuel imports.

Of course the real sin is that the province is lying to us. They know that we won't be shutting off the taps. They know that we have nowhere near 75 years of supply left. But for political reasons, they are content to tell us that there's nothing to worry about.
